Career Highlights: Wilson started his race career in southern California racing in Maiden Special Weight company where he couldn’t be claimed to a new owner. He didn’t do well there so was dropped to Maiden Claiming. It took him 7 times to break his maiden. He then raced in claiming company for the rest of his career except for two Starter Allowance races. His career as a race horse was pretty much up and down. In our opinion this makes him an excellent candidate for a new career.

Description: It’s a rare event at Neigh Savers when we accept a perfectly sound horse into our program. However, Wilson is not your usual “rescue” horse. He wasn’t rescued but claimed for retirement into our program. Therefore, we now have a horse that is beautifully conditioned and in top form, athletic, with good ground manners, a solid mind and a sweet puppy dog like personality. Where this next journey of his life will take him is unknown but he is brimming with possibility and that’s very exciting. A group of people with connections to the prior owners Anne & Rod Wilson knew that they hoped they could retire their former horse but due to Rod’s illness and other factors were not in a position to do so. This group of friends of Anne & Rod Wilson put the claiming money together and asked if Neigh Savers would find him a suitable home if they were able to retire him and we agreed. Unfortunately Mr. Rod Wilson passed away shortly before this claim could be finalized but he took comfort in knowing that his boy was going to be retired. In honor of the late Mr. Wilson and his wife Anne we have named Cowtownmary “Wilson.” Wilson is stabled at Hope for Horses in Galt, CA, a partner rescue that we are working more closely with and have several other horses in residence there now. Hope for Horses is TAA accredited and a CARMA partner.

Update August 2018:  Wilson is now in training after being given a few months to transition and relax and come down from track life.  He is a real find….so don’t hesitate to try to pick him up.  While still green, he’s sound and personable so has loads and loads of potential and promise.
