Party In Excess

Leila came to us as a very physically and immature mare.  She had not done well in any of her 8 career starts and was sent to us uninjured.  She was simply too slow and goofy for the track. She took months to figure it all out and grown into herself.  She grew a couple of inches and then put on a couple hundred pounds.  She handled despooking with ease, was nicely walk/trot/cantering in the arena.  She took to trotting poles quickly.  After several months of confidence building we took her on the trail and she became a champ at that as well.  She was a very adventurous kind of girl.  We discovered that Leila LOVED to jump more than anything in the world.  We sent her down south to spend some time with a jumping trainer.  It was shortly before she moved that Laurel emailed us.  Laurel had her eye on Leila for many months before she decided she wanted to try her out.  It’s a big expense to ship a horse to Hawaii and she wanted to make sure that she was the right horse for her.

Laurel came to visit Leila at the Thoroughbred Classic Horse Show.  After test riding her a couple of times and asking a ton of questions, Laurel went home to think.  A few weeks later and Leila had officially found her new home in Hawaii with Laurel.  Laurel will be using Leila to do a variety of things: polo, dressage, barrels and  jumping.  Leila is super athletic and will do well doing all of these things.  She made the plane flight to Hawaii with no issue and is getting used to her new neighbors (including a cow!).  We look forward to future updates.
