Katy is an 18 year old registered Belgian draft horse.
Katy started her life as a working horse on a ranch in Kelseyville, CA. As her original owner edged towards retirement she was placed with several of her buddies in a new home. Over the years Katy’s buddies all passed away and her owner made the decision to move her to a boarding facility where it was hoped she would be used as a lesson horse. Katy has battled with summer sores off and on through her life and developed a nasty case. It turns out she has a severe sensitivity to flies as well.
Lucky for Katy she had some friends that work with UC Davis who were able to care for her wounds! Over the summer she has greatly improved but not all of her sores have healed yet. Her owner sought to find a permanent retirement setting for this lovely large lady. Katy’s advocate from UC Davis reached out and asked if we could take her on and continue her recovery. After her healing is complete we hope Katy will enjoy spending time with our retired group and possibly coming in to help drag the arena on occasion.
