Description: Sassy Ashley is an elegant five-year-old (2013) Kentucky-bred chestnut mare who takes after her very respectable sire, English Channel who is by the outstanding Smart Strike. On the bottom half of her pedigree, is equally impressive boasting the legendary A.P. Indy. Ashley’s temperament is pure class to match her lovely looks.
Ashley was born and raised at the renowned Calumet Farms. She was sold at the Keeneland September Sale as a yearling for $33,000 and the buyer owned her for the duration of her 15-start racing career. Ashley was anything but predictable with where she’d finished in her races – ranging anywhere from first to eleventh.
Her owner decided it was time to retire at the end of November 2017. While in the process of being admitted to the Placement Program, Ashley was moved to San Luis Rey Downs. She was at the facility during the tragic Lilac Fire which claimed the lives of 46 racehorses. Ashley was not turned loose on that terrible day and was lead to safety. She has been an absolute lady. We have witnessed no physical or mental flaws. She lives well with other horses and is comfortable being part of a herd. She does not mind dogs, children or activity. Sassy Ashley retired sound.
Currently Ashley is in training with Kalley Krickeberg Balanced Horse Training and will not be available for adoption as she is being prepped for the Retired Racehorse Project to be held the beginning of October 2018 in Lexington, KY. Please be advised that as Kalley is a nationally known and much respected trainer, holding clinics throughout the country, having Kalley train Ashley is a privilege and an honor. Therefore, Ashley will be offered at her market rate somewhere in the 20K range when training is completed.
