Description:   Carabella is a large mare with plenty of bone. She was in race training but developed a sore tendon and her compassionate owner thought it best to retire her rather than risk more serious injury. Carabella is completely sound and has been returned to the program after being adopted last year. Her adopter wanted her for dressage and trail riding and had her professionally trained for a year in dressage. She is drop dead gorgeous and a lucky find.

May 2016 Update: This well-bred young mare has a playful and inquisitive personality that has made her a barn favorite with our volunteers at Bear Creek Stables. She has a good foundation in groundwork, works well on the lunge line and at liberty in the round pen; she stands quietly for grooming, tacking up and the farrier.

Carabella had a year of professional training in dressage and has good walk-trot-canter transitions, basic lateral work and side-passing. She is being ridden by our volunteers who note that she “has a lovely, big trot” and “figures things out very quickly.”  She prefers arena work over trail-riding as she needs a confident rider on trail.

Although cleared to jump up to 2’, Carabella would be best suited for dressage and flatwork.  She has mild Navicular Disease but is sound on bi-annual injections. Nicknamed “Marilyn Monroe” Carabella is drop dead gorgeous, very athletic, and has a willing attitude.

Update January 2017:  Carabella has been promoted to our Equine Assisted Therapy program and will remain a therapy horse in residence at Bear Creek Stables, Los Gatos until adopted.
