Description: We’re starting at Square One with this sweet mare. She’s going to need to recover first from near starvation but our vet says given a proper nutrition regimen she should make a full recovery. She came to us severely anemic, with a high white cell blood count and a heart murmur. In time we will let Dory decide what she wants to do. For now, she is being spoiled and loved upon like there’s no tomorrow. Our Board Director Caroline Holmes-Nathan has taken a special interest in her and says she really has the most kind and gentle disposition.

Update – December 2016:  It’s officially been two weeks since Dory landed safely in our hands. She’s enjoying her time at Artaurus Veterinary Clinic and is slowly gaining weight. The rain and cold weather doesn’t make it easy. Yet, with frequent small feedings, we expect there to be a noticeable difference soon.

December 2017:Dory was adopted but as she was adopted by a Neigh Savers principal will remain an honorary program participant!  Dory came from the brink of death and nursing her back to health and watching her beautiful soul emerge was an incredible experience for all of us that witnessed it.  It just shows the resilience and forgiveness these horses are capable of and serves as an example of why we do this, day after day, year after year.
